Evaluation of microstructure and mechanical properties of PMMA Matrix composites reinforced with residual YSZ from CAD/CAM Milling process

Background: Reinforcement of dental acrylics with fillers has yielded positive results. Different proportions have been added to strengthen the acrylics, but no consensus reached. Aim: The purpose this study was investigate effects addition different concentrations yttria-stabilized zirconium (YSZ) obtained from residues generated CAD-CAM milling YSZ on microstructure and mechanical properties poly-methyl-methacrylate (PMMA)-YSZ composites. Materials methods: Composite materials amounts (0.0 70.0% by weight) recycled reinforced PMMA resin matrix were produced. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR) used for microstructural analysis. Among properties, Vickers microhardness test method hardness, 2D profilometer surface roughness composite densities evaluated Archimedes method. Data analyzed using a one-way analysis variance (ANOVA) at pre-set alpha 0.05. Results: Microhardness density increased until 60% weight addition, while remained unchanged after addition. more than caused agglomeration in microstructures. decreased weight. Conclusion: residue zirconia powder will increase usage chance provide safer use PMMA.
